DAY FOUR: You Are Not Your Past Mistakes
Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
“It is not what happens to you that determines how far you go in life, it is what you do with what happens to you.”- Anonymous
Almost everyone if not everyone on the face of the earth has in one point in time made a mistake of any kind.
From the point of committing the mistake onwards we can come with two groups of people: First, those that realize their mistake learn from it, correct it and then move on. Then secondly, there are those who realize their mistake, groan and mourn over it and then move in circles around their mistake. The latter never build enough courage within themselves to enable them to overcome the pain inflicted by the mistake and then get their feet back on the ground and live life without regretting. It is ok to regret about your mistakes and regretting is done by most people who have done something wrong but in history up to this day it has never even once solved a single problem, no, not even the least of problems can be solved through regret. All it does is create a feeling of failure and unworthiness. People may judge you about what you have done in the past and your past failures and mistakes but the truth of the matter is that none of them can glue you to your mistake but yourself. You can either sit down and weep over your mistake or stand up and use the very mistake as a stepping stone to the next level. You are not your past failures. The beginning of anything is quite important but much more important is its ending because it will determine its eternity especially is what we are talking about is a human being. You shouldn’t allow your past failures and mistakes to ensnare you and keep you captive. You are not what you did yesterday or a second ago. You should learn to distinguish between yourself and your actions; you are not and you will never be your actions. You are God’s righteousness. But again if your ways are not righteous you need to mend them because as much as you are not your actions, your actions today may determine your fate and future. Your past is just that and it shouldn’t be allowed to interfere with your future. You may not be able to repair the past but you can prepare the future. There is nothing wrong to start wrong but don’t end up doing wrong.
