DAY NINE: Change Your Perception

Do not be conformed to this world (this age), [fashioned after and adapted to its external, superficial customs], but be transformed (changed) by the [entire] renewal of your mind [by its new ideals and its new attitude], so that you may prove [for yourselves] what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God, even the thing which is good and acceptable and perfect [in His sight for you]. (AMP)

Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.

Romans 12:2(MSG)

It is a fact that no one can deny that many people have died prematurely either physically or otherwise, not because they had to die but because of the way they perceived the problem they were faced with. Some people see their problems as terminal when in actual fact they are not. The way you perceive a situation will determine the way you react to it which will in turn determine the impact it will have in your life. No matter how negative a situation may look, there is always a positive side of that problem which if you can focus on will make you come out of the problem unhurt. Take for example, when king Uzziah died, Isaiah saw the Lord. The death might be negative but the seeing of the Lord by Isaiah is positive. No matter how dark your life may seem, I promise you there is always a brighter side if you can look closely. If we could teach ourselves to look beyond the present day situations, we would enjoy life. If you can change your perception, then you can change your destiny because your perception of present day situations determines your destiny. If you could see every stumbling block not as a stumbling block but as an elevated platform (or a stepping stone) to step on for you to reach the things that are ahead of you.  If you can ‘borrow David’s eyes,’ when everyone saw a giant that no one could stand, he saw a giant target too big to be missed. He didn’t deny the fact that Goliath was a giant but he simply ignored the negative implications that came with that but concentrated on the positive ones. That is what we have to copy. Ignore the negatives and glue your eyes to the positives. One day, a sick young girl was brought to Jesus and everyone was sad because the girl was dying. But Jesus looking at the positive side said, ”This sickness is not unto death but it has come to glorify God.” Don’t look in to the negative perception it will only lead you to more problems. Joyce Meyer said,  “A wise bird knows that a scarecrow is simply an advertisement. It announces that some very juicy and delicious fruit is to be had for a picking. There are scarecrows in all the best gardens.”

If you would also view the negatives that you see as advertisements that there is a positive aspect or even a lesson to learn in what seems to be a problem then you would live a stress free life. A bird can choose to run away from a scarecrow or it can choose to come close to it and have what’s in the garden. The bird would die of hunger if it could choose to fly away from the scarecrow but it would have a delicious meal if it would take that scarecrow as an advertisement that shows it the direction where the juicy fruits are.
