NACA award winner and christian rapper Switch launched his latest offering dubbed Walking In Faith at Mbabane Alliance this past Saturday (08 August 2015). Switch started CHH in 2005 and since then he has been a trailblazer in the country for all rappers in the music industry and impacted the young demographic both in the christian and secular circles, he has also shared the stage with other Christian musicians including former South African Idols winner Khaya Mthethwa and American Christian Rapper DaTruth.
Rapper Switch also known as Sandile M. Khumalo is one of the front runners in Swaziland as far as CHH is concerned, and his setup and performance on the night of the launch really took it to the next level. On the drum was Josh (Drummer at Sword and Spirit Ministries Mbabane) and on the turntables was producer and DJ Ziyawa of Gugupa Records
Switch’s set was preceded by a poet by Mo Cats titled Walking In Faith which is also on the Album. Switch went on the do the following tracks in this order:
Track #1: the first track after Mo Cats was the intro to the whole album
Track #2: next was Changes featuring Slotta who also produced the beat for the track. The track was written by Switch and Zanele Cele with this catchy hook
“People always change
your family gonn change
your friends they gonn change
But God stays the same”
Track #3: that was followed by a track titled Like It Is which is Track 14 on the CD, in this track switch was confronting the youth on the thing they do, Introducing them to reality via truth
Track #4: next was God is Good a #TurnUp track featuring M Seth (of EarDrumzz Studios) who also produced the track. On a turn-up scale of 1 to 10, 1 being the least, this track sits at 8/10
Track #5: Here Switch adopted an interesting concept that was lately used by Psycholution and that is the concept of conversing with God. Originally taken from the book Conversations With God. The track is titled Convos With God featuring Skeel. In the song Skeel represents God and Switch pours his heart out and as you listen more and more to the song you relate to the difficulties he goes through. The song also portrays God’s Grace and Mercy.
Track #6: This one Switch did with Smanga “Wordsmith Felix” Dludlu, Titled Talking Bout on the CD, it had this catchy hook”
“Ayikho Mnandi, Ayikho Mnandi
But It stays divine
They say Gospel is Boring, Ayikho Mnandi
What you talkin Bout”
Track #7: Switch sat down when he was performing this one. Through it he conveyed the hardship he faces as a christian with a sermon by his pastor, Pastor J. V. Mazibuko (aka J-Swagg) preaching on the work of the Holy Spirit in keeping us through hard times and in helping us build each other as christians. This song is track title Moya on the CD.
Track #8: This song was the show stopper and the title of the whole album. Yep you guessed it; it was Walking In Faith featuring Symphony. This song made look at CHH differently, because it really hit home. Here is the hook
In Him do I live, move and have all my being
Walking In Faith, Making No Sense
Calling whats not as though it were
Walking on water, flying without wings
Buying Without money
Going against natural laws
The song was so good the crowd requested an encore
Track #9: This track just takes you straight to church, its titled Titsatsele featuring Symphony and Mvillas. The track was a remix of a well known church song “ngiwo lawa, emandla aJehova“. By the time the song was over the crowd was on their feet, and requested an encore of the song.
Other artists that worked on the Walking In Faith album include Joy, Ziyawa and Sam Walker. The album is a total of 17 tracks mixed and mastered by Mozaik (Producer at Claiming Ground Records) and Produced by Slotta, Master Seth and Mozaik.
