Following a press release that Joyous Celebration released yesterday that they are withdrawing their nomination from the 16th Metro FM Awards (MMA16), we have gathered that Joyous will not be permitted to withdraw their nomination.
Kaizer Kganyago, who is spokesperson of the SABC, made it clear that Joyous will not be permitted to withdraw their nomination which was erroneously submitted by their label Sony Music Africa. When speaking to DRUM, Kganyago explained why Joyous will not be permitted to withdraw the nomination, “That’s simply because we didn’t enter them,” he said. “We’re not going to withdraw their nomination. People have already voted. The closing date has passed and the voting process has been completed.”
According to source Sony Music Africa admitted that they were at fault in submitting the nomination for MMA16. When question on why Joyous took so long to ratify things, Joyous Celebration Co-Founder, Lindelani Mkhize responded:
“You’ll have to reach out to Sony on that question but the minute we learnt of our nomination we made them aware that we don’t do awards,” Lindelani responded. “It’s an agreement we’ve had with them for years.
“In the event that we win, our feeling is that the award doesn’t belong to us,” he added “It belongs to the awesome artists who are nominated. If we win, on the night, we will work out a way for the nominees in that category to get what they deserve.”
